I love NPR. I listen to it on the radio and it’s really just different. Have you ever turned it on and just noticed that there is just something really different about that station? Of course, it’s a talk station but that’s not what I mean. The stories are so in depth and interesting and it may be an acquired taste but they talk about some stuff that you don’t often hear other places. The other thing that I like about them is the way that the hosts’ voices sound. I don’t think it is just the actual tone of their voices but more of the quality of the broadcast. I wonder if I am the only one who notices such things? Well, they were one of the parties to first cover this story.

Well, I was browsing Digg due to an unfortunate bout of insomnia and I came across the official totals of Texas which I have not even heard mentioned (and I watch CNN throughout the day). As it turns out, in the important area of delegates, Obama won more of them. She won the primary; he won the caucuses. So shouldn’t she stop with the whole she won all the states that matter?

I find it troubling that our media and press has not covered this or mentioned it and that we have to rely on outside sources. Is it because our press is lazy or inept? Is Hillary or her husband or both too powerful? Why is no one calling her to task? Will the people of Pennsylvania?

I understand that in politics, a lot of it is like advertising. The Big Mac never looks like the commercial. I get that. But there is a big difference between dressing something up and outright lying. Isn’t that what we are trying to get rid of? Please fellow voters, let’s work. When our candidates say something, take it upon yourself to research the facts. You can’t trust fact check because they actually stated that Hillary did do a little something something in Ireland. Do we really disregard the major players? Is lighting the Christmas Tree the equivalent of participating in bringing peace to Ireland? My answer…Hell no.

Hillary Clinton had no direct role in bringing peace to Northern Ireland and is a “wee bit silly” for exaggerating the part she played, according to Lord Trimble of Lisnagarvey, the Nobel Peace Prize winner and former First Minister of the province.

Well, here we all are again. Americans are always saying that they can’t stand the negative ads of politics. We all claim to want to talk about the issues. We all say that we have been lulled into complacency by the same old same old when the elections roll around. But finally we have a candidate who has moved the nation; maybe not everyone in the nation, but a pretty good chunk of it.We have a new, fairly young, fresh, untainted man who has sprung into the ugly, dank world of politics. He has dared to go where most people would never care to venture much less dwell. He has invited us, the people of the nation who love the nasty wit of Simon on American Idol, the conniving strategies of Survivor, and the biting sting of “you’re fired” to cast aside their cynicism and peer at his vision of hope. And we did. We viewed it. We let it move us.

We really began to feel again. We decided we could actually be interested in our country’s fate. We decided we DO care how we are viewed by the world. We registered to vote. We parted with our dollars and gave to propel this vision. We put our money where his mouth is because we loved the beauty of his words. We swore that we were through with that other side…that dark side that allows the name calling and character assassination. We said that we were tired of the games that old politics had played and we weren’t going to allow ourselves to be misinformed. We were going to understand the issues, stay on topic, remain focused.

And that lasted….until one candidate became desperate. Out came the manipulations and distortions; the ugly, vile trickery that we swore we would no longer tolerate. Yet slowly, imperceptibly, we allowed ourselves to slip somehow; like an addict who swore off dope yet finds himself hanging at his old haunts being tempted by old dealers until one day he comes to, wondering what happened.

How did we get here? At the precipice with our wings ready to fly and then for no apparent reason we grab the scissors and clip our own wings. We let someone like Hillary Clinton, desperate for a win shout her claims over and over until we broke. And broken we are. What could have been the beginning of a new era putting a unifying candidate in the ring for the Democratic party has instead turned into a continuation of a drawn out battle of contrasts. Let’s hope that over the next few weeks, we wise up, remember what we want, and understand that it will take some personal strength from ourselves to gain it. We have to be strong enough to resist that old American urge to “kick some ass.” We see that such primitive impulses landed us in Iraq and outrageous debt, and if we aren’t careful, it will take us even further to another 4 years of a dismissal leadership.
